Knee pain in Gladstone

Knee pain affects everyone from junior sport players through to workers on their feet all day and people managing arthritis. What is causing it varies enormously, so the treatment should too.

Common causes

  • Patellofemoral pain, felt at the front of the knee and often worse on stairs or after sitting
  • Ligament and meniscus injuries, usually from a twist or a direct knock
  • Tendon problems around the kneecap, common in running and jumping sports
  • Osteoarthritis, which typically brings stiffness first thing in the morning
  • Overload from a sudden increase in walking, standing or training

What an assessment involves

We look at how the knee moves and loads, test the ligaments and surrounding muscles, and assess your hip and ankle, since both change how force travels through the knee. We also talk through what your knee needs to do — work, sport, or simply getting through a day without it flaring.

How it is treated

Strength work is the backbone of most knee rehabilitation, and it is worth saying plainly that this takes time and consistency rather than a quick fix. Treatment may also include hands-on work, load management so the knee is not being aggravated daily, and guidance on returning to sport or full duties at the right pace.

Arthritis is worth a specific note: exercise is one of the best-supported treatments for knee osteoarthritis, and a well-structured program can make a meaningful difference to how the knee feels and functions.

When to seek urgent medical attention

Seek prompt medical assessment if you cannot put weight through the leg, the knee locked and will not straighten, it swelled up rapidly within an hour of an injury, or the knee is hot, red and painful alongside feeling unwell.

Funding options

We work with NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed, DVA cardholders, WorkCover Queensland claims, and Medicare Chronic Condition Management plan referrals. HICAPS is available on site for private health fund claiming.
