Shoulder pain in Gladstone
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which is exactly why it is easy to irritate. Shoulder pain can build up slowly over months or arrive suddenly after a single awkward lift.
Overhead and repetitive work is a common thread locally, along with the shoulder problems that come with sustained desk and driving postures.
Common causes
- Rotator cuff irritation or tears
- Shoulder impingement, where tissue is pinched as you lift the arm
- Frozen shoulder, which causes progressive stiffness as well as pain
- Shoulder blade and neck problems that refer pain into the shoulder
- Joint irritation at the top of the shoulder, often after a fall or a knock
What an assessment involves
We check how far and how well the shoulder moves, test the rotator cuff and surrounding muscles, and look at how your shoulder blade and neck contribute. Shoulder pain is often referred from elsewhere, so we assess the whole chain rather than only the sore spot.
How it is treated
Most shoulder problems respond to a structured loading program, and getting that dosage right is the main job. Alongside that, treatment may include hands-on work to restore movement, activity modification so the shoulder is not being re-irritated daily, and shockwave therapy where a stubborn tendon problem is involved.
When to seek urgent medical attention
See a doctor promptly if your shoulder was visibly deformed after an injury, you cannot move the arm at all, you have significant weakness following a fall, or the pain came on with chest discomfort, shortness of breath or nausea.
Funding options
We work with NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed, DVA cardholders, WorkCover Queensland claims, and Medicare Chronic Condition Management plan referrals. HICAPS is available on site for private health fund claiming.
