Hydrotherapy in Gladstone
Hydrotherapy is exercise in warm water, planned by your physiotherapist. The water supports part of your body weight, so you can work on movement and strength in a way that may be hard to do on land at the moment. Nordic Physio runs hydrotherapy sessions at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre, and it is open to all our clients.
When hydrotherapy may be an option
People often ask about pool-based exercise when exercising on land is difficult, for example in the early stages after some surgery (once your wound has healed and your surgeon is happy), with joint stiffness or arthritis, with back pain that limits land exercise, or when balance makes standing exercise harder. Whether it suits you is something we work out together at your assessment. For many people it works best alongside, not instead of, exercise on land.
How it works
- Your first appointment is at our clinic in Palms Shopping Fair, where we assess you and agree on goals.
- If hydrotherapy is a good fit, we plan a pool program around those goals.
- Sessions take place at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre.
- We review your progress and move exercises onto land as you are ready.
Is it safe for me?
Pool exercise is not right for everyone. It is usually not suitable with an unhealed wound, a skin infection, or some heart and breathing conditions. We check this at your assessment, and if you are unsure, check with your GP or surgeon first. If you are recovering from surgery, see our page on post-surgical rehabilitation.
Cost and funding
Hydrotherapy carries an additional cost on top of your consultation. The amount depends on how your care is funded (private, NDIS, DVA or WorkCover Queensland), so ask us when you book and we will explain what applies to you. NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed can use their plan; we are not an NDIS-registered provider, so we are unable to see agency-managed participants.
