Sports injuries in Gladstone

From rugby league and AFL to basketball, netball, running and the gym, we see sports injuries at every level. Eric played professional basketball and has been through several surgeries himself, including spinal, knee, foot and shoulder procedures, so he knows the rehab process from both sides.

Injuries we commonly see

  • Ankle sprains
  • Hamstring and calf strains
  • Knee injuries, including ACL and meniscus
  • Shoulder injuries and dislocations
  • Tendon pain: Achilles, patellar and hip
  • Overuse injuries from running and training load

What an assessment involves

We look at what happened, how the injured area moves and loads, and what your sport actually demands of it, then map out the stages back.

How it is treated

Early on the focus is settling the injury and keeping you moving. Then comes graded loading to rebuild strength and control, and finally sport-specific work (running, cutting, jumping, contact) before return. Hands-on treatment, dry needling and shockwave are available where they suit the problem. We will give you a realistic timeframe after the assessment, not a generic one.

After surgery

If you have had surgery, such as an ACL reconstruction or shoulder stabilisation, we work within your surgeon’s protocol. See post-surgical rehabilitation.

When to seek urgent medical attention

Go to a doctor or emergency department for a suspected fracture or dislocation, a joint that can’t take weight, a significant head knock (concussion needs medical assessment), or a calf that is hot, swollen and painful.

Funding options

We work with NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed, DVA cardholders, WorkCover Queensland claims, and Medicare Chronic Condition Management plan referrals — and we bulk bill every CDM appointment, so there is no out-of-pocket cost. HICAPS is available on site for private health fund claiming.

Book an appointment

You do not need a referral to see a physio privately. Book online any time, or call the clinic on (07) 4962 1255. We are at Shop 11, Palms Shopping Fair, 172 Goondoon Street, Gladstone Central, open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm.

Common questions

Should I ice or heat a new injury?

For the first day or two, relative rest, gentle movement within pain and ice for comfort are reasonable. Get it assessed if it isn’t improving within a few days.

When can I get back to training?

It depends on the injury and your sport. We use strength and function tests rather than just the calendar.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly.
